Africa-Press – Tanzania. CHINA’S Geely Group has kick-started a major sporting initiative in support of the Arusha-based Nyota Football Academy.
Through its newly established Tanzanian arm of Keeway Motor, the move will bring a relief to one of the best academies oprating in the country.
“Keeway Motor is going to stand as main supporter to Nyota academy and all the teams under the institution,” stated Lydia Kaguru, the Arusha Branch Manager for Keeway Motor Company, adding that the firm seems to be more interested in soccer development worldwide.
Having opened up shop in Tanzania last November the 20th, Keeway Motor is a Chinese firm which deals with manufacturing and supplying of high-end motorcycles and accessories.
The company which was established in 1985 with branches in 88 countries worldwide, has offices in Arusha, Mbeya and Mtwara.
According to the firm’s Manager, Kaguru, Keeway Motor will be injecting an annual grant of 10m/- to Nyota Academy effective from 2021.
Keeway will also provide the Nyota teams with sporting gear and equipment as well as supporting the clubs with ventures outside Arusha.
Thobias Julius, who is the Nyota Football Academy Manager, said the boost from Kewaay will help solve some problems facing the football club currently playing in the (Third Division) Regional Soccer League, with three matches left before completing the round.
The Secretary General of Arusha Regional Football Association (ARFA) Emmanuel Anthony said the one-year contract between the company and Nyota Academy was a welcome development but he implored Keeway to support other clubs because Arusha has many other teams.
Based in Sinoni, Nyota Academy runs the soccer training institution as well as two teams, the youth team participating in the ongoing East African Chipkizi Cup 2020 and an adult team which plays in the third division league.
