Africa-PressTanzania. MEMBERS of the Chinese medical team have organized a free medical camp in Kivunge village, directly benefiting the host population in Kivunge village, Unguja North Region.

The Chinese medical personnel – including experts in obstetrics and gynecology, stomatology, and otolaryngologists, performed medical checkups and treated more than 150 people with dental, cervical cancer, ear, nose and throat (ENTs) problems.

“We are happy that our team has been helping people in hospitals and outreach programs in villages,” Dr Wang Timing, medical team captain said as patients also explained their happiness on the services.

Ms Timing said that the Chinese medical team organized the camp to further strengthen relations between Zanzibar and China, with focus on benefiting the majority of people, particularly the poor.

Upon arrival on September 21, last year, the team that comprised 30 experts has been working at the Mnazi Mmoja hospital for seven months. Kivunge district hospital is the second largest public hospital in Zanzibar, focusing on maternal and child health care.

“After initial investigations, we found that the Kivunge hospital also urgently needs the help of technology, medicine and equipment,” said Dr Wang.

According to the needs of the hospital, the medical team sent three professionals to provide on-site diagnosing and treating instructions, help local doctors to improve their technical level and provide better medical services for local patients.

The Chief Medical Officer at Kivunge Hospital Dr Tamim Hamad commended the chief medical team for the ongoing commitment to support the country’s efforts to improve healthcare, “They have done a great job to local people,” he noted.

He said diseases are still challenges to the people particularly in the rural areas and that development partners led by China have been supporting the health sector.
