Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Mufti of Tanzania, Chief Sheikh Abubakar Zubeir, said religious institutions in the country have begun a dialogue aimed at restoring the nation’s image, preserving peace, and protecting the lives and property of Tanzanians.
In a statement issued yesterday, December 7, 2025, Mufti Zubeir said the discussions are being held under the leadership of the Secretary General of the National Muslim Council of Tanzania (BAKWATA), Nuhu Mruma.
“These talks have already begun through our institution, the Tanzania Interfaith Partnership (TIP), whose current Chair is the Secretary General of BAKWATA, following the completion of the term of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC),” Mufti Zubeir explained in the statement.
He added: “The Secretaries General of TEC, the Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) and BAKWATA have already met several times, and eventually we senior leaders have also met. Our discussions are progressing well, and I believe that since our shared goal is to safeguard our country and protect lives and property—public or private—as well as infrastructure, we will restore our nation’s image.”
The Chief Sheikh urged Tanzanian citizens to give religious leaders time to continue their discussions. “Remain calm, be peacekeepers, and avoid any incitement aimed at dividing us, wherever that incitement may appear—whether on social media or elsewhere,” he said.
