Africa-Press – Tanzania. COAST Region and CRDB Youth teams posted vital wins that put them closer to the knockout stage of the CRDB Bank Taifa Cup tournament at the Chinangali Park courts in Dodoma.

Coast Queens and CRDB Youth teams defeated Mbeya Queens and Mwanza respectively in the fiercely contested games as both sides fought hard to seek victory.

In the first game held in the fourth day of the tournament, CRDB Youth posted a slim 41-40 win in the game that looked like a real battle.

CRDB Youth have now tied with Dar Queens at the top of group B, both having won twice with a game in hand.

Both are likely to sail into the knockout stage.

Coast Queens beat Mbeya Queens 48-45 and the victor the winner at the top of group C.

Dar Queens who are the defending champion saw off Arusha Queens by 70-28 in another game played in the evening.

Early yesterday Mbeya Queens thumped Singida 71-17 to take group C lead with 5 points and denting their opponents hope of making it into the next stage after three consecutive defeats.

In men discipline, Unguja defeated Kilimanjaro 53-36 to go at the top of group A while on the other side their opponent Kilimanjaro were pushed close to the exit door, as they have lost three games.

In another group A game, Mwanza beat Mtwara by 77-55 points to settle in the second slot with 5 points , a point superior to Mtwara who have 4 points.

While in group B , Coast Region won against Shinyanga by 82-61 points to bag 5 points and get closer to the group leaders, Dar es Salaam ‘Dream Team’ who are on six point after winning three games.

In group C, men’s defending champions , Mbeya hope of defending their almost lost after losing three games with a single game left.

CRDB Youth and Manyara are at the top of the group with 6 and 5 points respectively while in group D, Arusha won 77-57 points against Morogoro on Monday evening whereas hosts Dodoma thrashed Simiyu 103 -52 points.

But yesterday, Arusha’s 80-67points victory over Simiyu put the Northern Tanzania side at the top of their group with 7 points followed by Dodoma with 6 points.

The second edition of the CRDB Bank Taifa Cup 2021 will see the winners of the both categories pocket 5m/- each while the runner ups will collect 3m/- whereby the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will take home 500, 000 .

Also the bank has set aside 10 m/- for sponsorship youth players who will excel in the tournament to pursue further studies in various higher learning institutions.
