Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan on Friday issued a stern warning against a slowly rising wave of crime in Dar es Salaam with criminal gangs resurfacing in the City.
Addressing Dar es Salaam regional elders President Samia, who is also the Command in Chief of the Armed Forces, ordered individuals involving themselves in such criminal acts to immediately stop or be forced to retire from the illegal activities.
According President Samia, there were signs of security laxity in the city and that she was not happy with the situation, ordering the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Simon Sirro to act immediately on the situation by intensifying security in the country’s largest commercial city.
Vividly angered by the acts the Head of State cautioned those involved in criminal acts against trying the government, ordering the IGP to work on the pressing matter with immediate effect.
As part of efforts to provide a long lasting solution to crimes, the Head of state asked parents and guardians to provide proper guidance to their children for them to have proper morals for the national interest.
President Samia’s statement came a few days after the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone arrested 161 people for allegedly being involved in the theft of motorcycles, vehicles, and spare parts.
Individuals who have lived in Dar es Salaam for the past five years will agree that President Samia’s concern is valid and must be worked on with immediate effect and with all the strength.
When the fifth phase government under the late President John Magufuli took over the reins of the country crime in Dar es Salaam came under control, thanks to the efforts made by law enforcement agents and probably with the assistance of the general public.
But in recent days, crime, especially acts that involve theft of spare parts has started resurfacing in some parts of Dar es Salaam City, sending the chills down the spines of car owners.
Security is understood to be the state of feeling safe, stable, and free from fear or anxiety but when security covers the public it now becomes the function of governments to ensure the protection of citizens, persons in their territory, organizations, and institutions against threats to their wellbeing – and to their prosperity of their communities.
It is well understood that Tanzania, just like other nations, public security is placed in the hands of law enforcement organs such as the army, police and intelligence agencies.
But given the complex nature of security, especially on its enforceability, Tanzanians, under their small communities, must also take part in securing areas through what is known as community policing.
Through community policing intelligence can be easily gathered for bolstering security in the respective areas. As it is clear that police officers cannot be everywhere, the general public has the role to play in securing their areas.
Apart from community policing, the advice made by President Samia that requires parents and guardians to provide proper guidance to their children for them to have proper morals for the national interest is something that must be underscored.
Reading President Samia’s thoughts, one may conclude that upright families create an upright nation, meaning that Tanzania will also get rid of criminals if parents create upright families.
