Africa-Press – Tanzania. PREPARATION is on top gear for the second edition of the Corporate Masters Golf tournament heading for a tee off at Dar Gymkhana Club course.
The 18-hole annual tournament is organised by the Dar es Salaam based TAMU Tanzania. According to the event’s organiser, Kelly Simon the Masters Golf showpiece is scheduled to tee off on August 7 at the Dar es Salam Gymkhana Club (DGC).
Simon said they are forced to start early preparation so as to ensure they run the tournament that suits corporate status.
“This will be our second edition of the Corporate Masters after we staged a successful first edition at Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf Club in Dar es Salaam in December,” he said.
Adding, he said tournament meant to harmonise friendship and present a networking platform for corporate fraternity. However, he said that they have decided to introduce the event to bring corporates together as a country is yet to utilize the game from a networking point of view.
“Golf is a game for Diplomats and corporate, but Tanzania has yet to use this platform like it is to neighboring Kenya and Uganda, it is important also for the game development to have them in the game. “The only way to bring them into the game is to have a platform like this as it is also important for their businesses,” he said.
Simon said Dar es Salaam should have corporate events at least every weekend, but this Masters should be a starting point to motivate them to engage in the game. According to the organisers, apart from individual competition there will also be inter-companies competition on which each company will be represented with two or three players.
“Companies teams will compete to determine the best team during the event,” he added.
He stressed that during the event they will also organise a golf clinic to give them opportunity to learn more and also give chance for those yet to test the goodness of the game. To ensure that everything is going smoothly Simon said the door is open for sponsors to join hands in the tournament.
“We invite companies, institutions and individual sports well-wishers to come forward to support the event,” he said.
