COSTECH's Headquarters Move to Dodoma Progresses Rapidly

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Chairperson of the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), Mr John Kondoro, has commended the rapid progress of the ongoing construction of the commission’s new headquarters in Dodoma, expressing satisfaction with the current pace of implementation.

The building, which is part of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) initiative, is set to become the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Complex—one of the flagship projects aimed at advancing scientific research and innovation in the country.

Speaking during a site inspection visit on Thursday, Mr Kondoro noted that construction had reached 15 per cent completion, with the contractor already three per cent ahead of the contract schedule.

“With the current momentum, we are confident that the building could be completed even before the official handover date of March 2026. We are impressed by the quality of work, adherence to standards, and the contractor’s commitment,” he said.

The project is being implemented for 8bn/-, aiming to improve higher education infrastructure and scientific capacity, particularly through establishing a modern STI facility in the capital city.

On his part, COSTECH Director General, Dr Amos Nungu, said the construction officially began in March 2025 under the HEET project, which seeks to strengthen the institutional framework for science, technology, and innovation across Tanzania.

Dr Nungu explained that the complex will feature specialised innovation spaces, including modern conference halls for scientists, state-of-the-art laboratories to support researchers and innovators, and designated areas for developing scientific and technological solutions.

“This facility will significantly enhance COSTECH’s ability to serve researchers, innovators, and other stakeholders in the technology ecosystem. The current headquarters in Dar es Salaam will remain operational, offering additional incubation space to support innovation. Once completed, this will mark a major milestone in the country’s advancement in science and technology,” he said.

The relocation of COSTECH headquarters from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma aligns with the government’s broader policy to shift public offices to the national capital, aiming to improve the coordination and operational efficiency of government and scientific institutions.

TIL Construction Limited Site Engineer, Mr Razak William, said the project has now been underway for four months and pledged to continue working in line with the contractual standards to ensure completion by the agreed date of March 24, 2026.
