Africa-Press – Tanzania. MEMBER of Parliament for Tarime Rural Consistency, who is also Deputy State Minister in the Vice-President’s Office (Union and Environment) Mwita Waitara, has vowed not to spare any councillors who will attempt to embezzle millions of shillings set aside for development projects in their wards.
“If you misappropriate funds for development projects, you will be held accountable,” Mr Waitara repeatedly warned all councillors in Tarime District Council last week.
He said the councillors played a great role by ensuring every cent provided for development projects to improve social services and other development issues was well-spent.
Tarime Rural District is one of the areas in Mara Region that get millions of money for development projects. Besides that, the council gets millions of money from North Mara Gold Mine.
“You have time to decide if you will be councillors for five years or more,” Mr Waitara said.
He also urged the councillors not to seek the so-called 10 per cent from service providers.
Speaking on the same occasion, the newly elected chairman of Tarime District Council, Mr Simion Samwel, said he was committed to serving the common good and not personal interests.
“I have not come here for my personal interests. Justice will prevail,” Mr Samwel said.
The council chairman said all wards of Tarime Rural District would witness development during his time.
“We are going to visit all wards and ensure our development goals are attained,” he said.
