Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Contractors Registration Board (CRB) has advised contractors to respect contracts while making sure that projects are completed in time.
The CRB Registrar Eng Rhoben Nkori, said being a “contractor is a very serious business” that need proper management on financial skills and adhering to ethics governing the sector.
“When you are trusted and awarded a tender you must respect the contract because experience shows that some of us misuse project funds ending to failure to complete the project on agreed time and standard,” Eng Nkori said he said when closing the three days training here for southern local contractors.
He said profit comes after completing the project especially before agreed deadline.
“In order to get profit you must [observed] working timetable and complete the project even before the agreed time. This reduces overheads costs,” he said. A training participant from LABA Construction, Mr Emmanuel Mshana, said the training was an eye-opener that exposed them in many areas especially reading between the lines to understand contracts and the away their drafted. “We have learnt a lot from these three days. For example on how to prepare working plan, to read between the lines contracts before signing and how to use e-procurement system TANePs,” Mr Mshana said.
Another contractor, Osward Kikoti said the training assisted them on applying tenders properly and compete with foreign companies plus tackling challenges at site.
The training brought together some 70 local contractors from Iringa, Njombe, Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Rukwa, Dodoma, Tanga, Morogoro, Mwanza and Ruvuma.
