Africa-Press – Tanzania. CRDB Bank has dished out some 20m/- in prize in the last two months in a bid to encourage people to cultivate saving culture.
The bank’s Senior Manager Consumer Liabilities Abel Lasway said in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday that the lender launched a campaign dubbed ‘Jipe Tano’ in October with the amount being distributed to over 4,000 customers.
The campaign objective was met since 74,000 new accounts were opened during the period as of yesterday.
“We are very grateful.. for the Jipe Tano campaign where its success not only is for the benefit of CRDB but also for the economy….“The campaign has been able to reach more Tanzanians in the formal financial services system,” said Mr Lasway.
The senior manager said in the Jipe Tano campaign various groups of customers have been awarded.
In December, for instance, bank awarded school fees to parents who opened Junior Jumbo children’s accounts in a total of 30m/-.
“CRDB aims to ensure the bank grows with the customer at all stages of life,” added Mr Lasway.
Alongside prize offered for savings and children’s accounts opening the bank also targeted college students who opened new accounts.
The bank’s sales team also set up camps at various colleges in the country to provide financial education and account opening procedures.
“We have succeeded in enrolling many students in the formal financial system and rewarded them with things that will improve their lives in college,” said Mr Lasway.
Through the Jipe Tano and Scholar student campaign, 100 students from various colleges were awarded laptops (computers) and smart phones.
Speaking after being announced as the winner of a laptop, Jackline Masayanyika, a student from SAUT in Mwanza, said the prize would be a great help in her studies based on number of opportunities available online.
