Africa-PressTanzania. TANZANIA Railways Corporation (TRC) Director General, Masanja Kadogosa announced on Saturday that they will begin trials for the high-speed train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro in August this year.

Kadogosa told President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the State House in Dar es Salaam, the construction work for the 300-kilometer Dar es Salaam – Morogoro section has now reached 91 per cent.

He said the other section of the 422 kilometer-long Morogoro Makutupora in Singida has also reached 60.02 and the construction work to both project is progressing very well.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Presidential Communications Gerson Msigwa, Kadogosa thanked President Samia and the Sixth Phase Government for approving 372.34 bn/- to commence work on the 341km Mwanza-Isaka railway line.

President Samia said the government was committed to ensuring that the construction of the central railway connecting the port of Dar es Salaam to the Lake Region and the Western Region was completed. The project will further connect the country to neighboring Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and the DRC.

The President urged the Director General to oversee the implementation of the projects and prepare for the construction of the Makutopora-Tabora, Tabora-Isaka and Kaliua-Mpanga-Kalema railway section.
