Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANGANYIKA District Council in Katavi Region has accomplished the construction of 196 classrooms under the Tanzania Covid -19 Social Economic Response Plan (TCRP) programme.

TCRP encompasses the National Development and Vaccination Plan, an outline of the country agenda of vaccinating 20 per cent of the population with support from COVAX facility.

Equally, the district has a balance of 118m/-, saved after completing the task of project implementation. Speaking during the handing over of 196 classrooms to the Katavi Regional Commissioner (RC) Ms Mwanamvua Mrindoko, District Planning Officer, Dotto Kwigema said the council had received 5.4bn/- for vaccination campaign and improvement of the education sector.

The handing over event was held yesterday, attracting citizens and members of defense and security committee. “The district has saved 34m/- after completing the construction of 69 classrooms for secondary schools. Likewise, more than 84m/- has been saved after finishing the construction of 107 classrooms for primary schools… So there is balance amounting to 118m/- after completing the task, “explained Kwigema.

He further emphasized that the accomplishment of the project will address the challenge of students’ congestion in classrooms. “Now the students are going to learn in a comfortable, friendly and conducive atmosphere,” noted Kwigema. He further noted that the balance of 118m/- will be spent on constructing 144 toilet pits in primary schools.

In her rejoinder, RC Mrindoko commended the district council for teaming up with councilors and citizens to accomplish the task before December 31st, last year, which was set as the deadline for all councils’ countrywide to accomplish the task. “I’m very pleased indeed to hear that you have spent the fund very well in executing the project and you are left with the balance of over 100m/-

“This a good sign and it shows that the work was well supervised … I also applaud the Tanganyika district administration and civilians, who put in their workforce to complete the task… Well-done for a commendable job in assuring that the task is accomplished, keep it up” noted the RC.
