Africa-Press – Tanzania. A TOTAL of 16 local government authorities (LGAs) in four Lake Zone regions have received a total of 22 tonnes of fertiliser through the Tanzania Agricultural Inputs Support Project (TAISP) under the Ministry of Agriculture.

A recent report released by the Ministry of Agriculture states that the fertiliser consignment was distributed across councils in Mwanza, Geita, Shinyanga and Simiyu regions as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen demonstration farms established in the respective areas.

“The fertiliser distribution exercise was carried out on December 22 and 23, 2025, with the objective of strengthening farmer learning centres at demonstration farms, enabling farmers to acquire knowledge on appropriate agricultural technologies, efficient use of inputs and improved crop productivity,” the statement said.

According to the report, fertiliser was distributed to Sengerema, Magu, Kwimba and Misungwi councils in Mwanza Region; Kishapu, Shinyanga District Council, Kahama Municipality and Msalala in Shinyanga Region; Bukombe, Mbogwe, Chato and Geita District Council in Geita Region; as well as Maswa, Bariadi District Council, Itilima and Busega in Simiyu Region.

The statement further noted that a total of 226 demonstration farms have been established in the participating councils and are expected to directly benefit 7,080 farmers in the respective regions.

It added that since the launch of the TAISP project, farmers have demonstrated strong commitment to applying the training they receive, a development that has contributed to improved understanding of appropriate agricultural technologies and increased crop production.

The Ministry of Agriculture, through the TAISP project, will continue working closely with local government authorities and other agriculture sector stakeholders to ensure that demonstration farms are effectively utilised as farmer learning centres, with the aim of increasing crop production, boosting household incomes and strengthening national food security.

During its 2025 election campaign, the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) unveiled an ambitious manifesto pledging to accelerate reforms in the agriculture sector.

The party promised timely access to subsidised agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, seeds and pesticides, alongside fast-tracking the establishment of new irrigation schemes to promote modern, climate-resilient farming
