Africa-Press – Tanzania. HUSSEIN Dewji netted four-under 68 strokes to claim KSI Charity Golf overall winner’s prize in the 18-hole tournament staged at Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club over the weekend.

The victory also awarded Dewji a return ticket donated by Fly to Dubai. Played by 100 golfers, the 18-hole tournament was aimed at raising funds to help patients with sight problems.

Also played well was Arjun Lavingia who carded a par level 72 to finish men’s Division A winner. The Division B title went to Hitesh Valambia while Hussein Dewji claimed the runner up title. Arshid Esmail won the B Division title while the runner up prize went to Khalaf Rashid.

The winner of the Ladies Division A was Ayne Magombe, while Christina Charles won Division B followed by Zahra Somji as runner up. Ladies C division title went to Myung Lee and the runner up was Tomoko Miyamoto.

Guest winner was Pradeep Srivasaria and men’s longest drive prize went to Ernest Sengeu while for ladies it was Ayne Magombe who won it. The closest to pin award in men’s category went Patrick Nanyaro whereas Christina Charles won the ladies’ title.

Also brightened the winners’ list were DGC Lady Captain Sue van Zly who joined other four golfers who won Professional Nazeer Tajudeen free golf lesson vouchers. Others are Cyril Brown, Abrie Brown, Barani Peters and Neelam Srivastava.

Over 100 golfers participated in the tournament organised by Khoja Shia Ithanasheri Charitable Eye Centre (Temeke) to raise funds for Tanzanians with eye sights complications. One of event’s organisers from KSI, Ali Dewji said that the tournament graced by Damas Ndumbaro a Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism was a huge a success.

He stressed: “The event was staged with the intention to raise funds towards purchasing vital ophthalmic equipment that would enhance the services and help address patients with eye sights complications. “They successfully signed up more than 100 participants and raised 31.2m/- without counting entry fees. So we can successfully acquire ophthalmic equipment locally to help serve people in Temeke and throughout Dar es Salaam,” said Ali.

He commended participants and event’s sponsors for making it possible to raise funds. Sponsors who backed the event’s success include platinum sponsor, Saturn Corporation Ltd.
