Africa-PressTanzania. ENERGY Minister Dr Merdard Kalemani has said that Dodoma City is set to have 648 megawatts by December this year, thus being among the cities in the country with reliable electricity. Dr Kalemani made the remarks during his tour of Kongwa District in Dodoma region in response to President Samia’s directives to ensure that people are supplied with reliable power.

He said the 648 megawatts have never been attained in any of the cities in the country which are Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Tanga, Mwanza and Mbeya.

The Minister said that when Dar es Salaam is connected with Coast region it will be the second city with 547 megawatts while other cities were still having low power supply.

He said Dodoma has been given priority because it is expected to grow into a major city in the future with high population which will lead into increasing demand of electricity.

According to the minister, Dodoma started with 48 megawatts before it officially became the Capital City.

“My ministry has been implementing a campaign of continuing to construct and expand Zuzu power substation by adding 400kv, thus making a total of 448Kv,” he said.

He added that the ministry plans to construct a substation which will add 200Kv, noting that by end of this year the station will have 648 megawatts.

Dr Kalemani further explained that President Samia has provided 41bn/- for the construction of a power generating station at NARCO area in Ugogoni ward in Kongwa district as part of efforts to address power problem in the locality.
