Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR: THE rulling party CCM’s Secretary General, Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi, has urged people in Zanzibar to nurture the Government of National Unity (GNU) because it has multiple benefits for the country.
His call came after repeated threats by the Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT-Wazalendo) to withdraw from GNU.
“The presence of GNU has ended politics of hatred and great hostility that existed before,” he said during his recent tour in Pemba and Unguja, where he held meetings with some party leaders at the grassroot level, and also visited retired leaders.
Dr Nchimbi said the objectives and decision to establish GNU were based on prioritising the people’s lives and maintaining peace and political stability.
CCM will continue to fulfill its responsibility to lead on the basis of justice and responsibility in order to maintain unity and stability in the country,” Dr Nchimbi emphasised.
“Personally, when I hear someone talking about wanting to withdraw from the GNU, I don’t understand that person at all.
GNU is for peace, and people’s lives are more important than anything else. We must put forward the interests of the country, stability and our unity, not political parties,” CCM secretary general explained.”
Mr Nchimbi recalled that when he was the Minister of Internal Affairs, he travelled to Zanzibar frequently because of security concerns.
“We must work together to end hostility and hatred and never go back to those days. If there are complaints, the best way is to resolve them by talking while showing maximum tolerance.”
He urged CCM members and fans not to react emotionally because they (CCM) are responsible for nurturing the unity and peace in the country, issues that are prerequisite to the development of the country.
Dr Nchimbi also emphasised the position of CCM to continue to implement the unique responsibility of protecting the Revolution of Zanzibar and its foundations, saying that it is what has made all people equal before the law and eliminated all kinds of discriminations.
The CCM Secretary General told leaders and elders here that they bear witness of how the different phases of the CCM led governments – Union and Zanzibar have made significant efforts to propel development of the people.
The CCM Deputy General Secretary (Zanzibar), Dr Mohamed Said Mohamed ‘Dimwa’, said that CCM is proud to have enough elders with patriotism, wisdom, and the ability to advise on various things that are beneficial for the development of the party and its governments in general.
Dr Dimwa explained that the CCM Constitution of 1977, recognises elders because they play a great role in the development, while the CCM elders Chairperson Ms Hadija Jabir, urged the elders to develop a culture of criticising, advising and giving opinions to strengthen the party when they see that thing going against objectives and the basis of establishing CCM.
