Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has stated that the unrest that began on October 29, 2025, and continued thereafter was not ordinary but was carefully planned and executed with the major objective of attempting to overthrow the government.
Speaking today, December 2, 2025, to the Elders of Dar es Salaam Region at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC), President Samia said the unrest was part of “a broad project with malicious intent,” involving people from various groups some fully aware of the mission, others unaware, some following the crowd, and others who received money without understanding the purpose behind what they were instructed to do.
“What happened was a manufactured event, and those who planned it intended to bring down our government,” President Samia said.
She explained that the unrest caused extensive damage, including the burning of government buildings, destruction of public projects, burning of fuel stations and private businesses, torching of government vehicles, and the destruction of numerous police stations.
“So should we call that a demonstration or outright violence?” she questioned, emphasizing the gravity of the destruction.
Nevertheless, President Samia vowed to continue protecting the country and its borders, as well as safeguarding citizens and their property. She added that the measures taken to control the unrest were aimed at restoring and maintaining national security.
