Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIANS have commended the government’s efforts to bolster national security through its defence and security agencies, recognising that these measures play a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s broader economic development interests.

Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ yesterday, some Tanzanians said the security and defence agencies are well-prepared to ensure peace and stability across the country.

Commenting on the matter, Professor of Economics and Founding Director of the Centre for Chinese Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam, Prof Humphrey Moshi, said the security organs have implemented solid measures to reinforce national security and protect peace and stability.

“What happened after the October 29 general election was regrettable because our global image as an island of peace and stability was tarnished. However, it has taught us an important lesson: peace and stability are the foundation of economic progress,” Prof Moshi said.

He added that without peace and stability, economic and social development cannot be achieved and urged Tanzanians not to allow the country to fall into the category of nations plagued by conflict.

Prof Moshi explained that the nation’s long-standing reputation, built over decades, has already been affected, stressing that any challenges should be resolved through peaceful and constructive means rather than violence.

He further encouraged citizens to engage in dialogue to reach a common understanding and prevent any recurrence of security threats in the country.

On his part, the local government authority chairperson for Mwongozo street in Makuburi Ward, Ubungo District, Peppino Sudi, commended the move for reinforcing security and preventing unrest.

He said the measure was crucial in ensuring that Tanzania continues to enjoy peace and stability.

Another resident of Dar es Salaam, Ms Sophia Kambona applauded the government and security organs for strengthening security.

She said the government had implemented a strong strategy, with the Police Force working together with the Tanzania People’s Defence Force to ensure sustained peace.

“Young people should avoid being lured into causing chaos, because without stability, there can be no development,” she said.

Meanwhile, Police assured the public yesterday that the country’s state of security was stable as of the 24-hour report.

Police Force Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime said both economic and social activities were proceeding well in various parts of the country.

He urged the public to continue cooperating in the shared responsibility of maintaining peace and stability in the country.

“Together with other security and defence organs, the Police assure citizens that we will continue to protect the safety of our nation, as well as the lives and property of every individual in the country,” said DCP Misime.

He also, urged the public to continue educating and reminding one another to reject all attempts carried out through various means and shifting narratives aimed at creating divisions and spreading hatred among citizens.

He said that such efforts intend to incite unrest, the consequences of which are undesirable, as evidenced in various parts of the world
