Africa-Press – Tanzania. TEMEKE District Commissioner (DC) Jokate Mwegelo has called on women to exploit opportunities from the ongoing government projects for their own development.
The DC who was recently in Zanzibar, noted that an increased number of women in development projects is a result of the ongoing efforts by President Samia Suluhu Hassan on stimulating the economy.
“President Samia’s efforts have seen an increased number of young women in development projects that enable them to generate their own income,” she said.
Ms Jokate made the statement when she was gracing the second forum on ‘Opportunity for Women’ that was organised by Planet Youth Development Organisation of Zanzibar (PYDOZ).
PYDOZ is engaging in promoting entrepreneurship, health, education, and research among young girls.
She also called on women in their groups to continue supporting President Samia’s efforts on attaining gender equality for sustainable development as well as addressing challenges facing women.
Ms Jokate also described President Samia as a real inspiration to many young women who aspire to become leaders and successful in some years to come.
Our Head of State has really shown a good example of how women should be, her courage and focus have proved that not only men can lead and make things happen,” noted the Temeke DC.
During the forum, Ms Jokate also accepted the request of becoming the PYDOZ ambassador charged with the role of promoting the organisational goals for sustainable development.
She also campaigned for better use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in exploiting the available opportunities in every sector for their benefits.
“As an entrepreneur, I have also been using social media and advancement of ICT in making things happen, it’s crucial to understand the opportunities and grab them all for our own development,” she insisted.
Moreover; “Zanzibari women should produce quality and reliable products to be sold locally and abroad. It is important for new entrepreneurs to set and start implementing their long-term priorities”.
For her part, the Director of PYDOZ, Salmin Botea, said the aim of her organisation was to show how important women are in the society and the roles they play to the country’s development.
Participants to the event said the festival provided an opportunity to learn and develop their talents as well as improve networking.
Ms Aliyeh Salum, a soap producer, said the gathering with people who had much experience in business, helped her to acquire more ideas on how to deal with challenges and move forward.
