Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA: SMALLHOLDER farmers are set to benefit from modern technologies and markets for their products, thanks to a partnership deal between Tanzanian and Chinese firms.

Haippa Public Limited Company Director, Mr Boniface Ndengo said here on Wednesday that poor farming technologies and lack of markets are among the factors haunting most smallholder farmers in the country.

“We start with cassava whose demand proved to be high in China. We will be visiting farmers across the country to buy the crop,” he said.

The partnership between Haippa Public Limited Company and Jinhua Trade Company Limited will also guarantee Tanzania smallholder farmers with modern farming technologies.

This has been made possible through a five-year AfricaChina Think Tank programme that takes off this month, which is jointly implemented by the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) and the College of Economics and Management, Zhejiang Normal University of China.

He called on Tanzanians to grab such an opportunity for livelihood improvements while also making Tanzania a food granary as per President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s ambition. IRDP Mwanza Center Director, Prof Juvenal Nkonoki said the market access in China means a lot to smallholder farmers who experience huge post-harvest loss.

Legal Translator at Zhejiang Normal University, Dr Zhu Yaxiong, affirmed the endless support, not only technology wise but also showering the Tanzanians with ‘how-to-do-it’ training, whenever needed.
