Africa-Press – Tanzania. Huge fire erupted at Paje tourist village in South Unguja, burning at least one building of Jambo Inn Hotel in the area, police revealed yesterday.

“Fortunately no casualty, but it is sad that some properties have been destroyed. We are still evaluating the value of the destroyed properties,” said South Unguja Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Suleiman Hassan Suleiman.

He said that preliminary findings show that fire erupted from the New Year’s celebration fireworks but efforts by the hotel staff and the firefighters helped to control the blaze.

Just in less than two months, two different tourist hotels in South Unguja have been burned causing heavy loss of properties. Cause of the fire is still under investigation, the police said.
