Africa-PressTanzania. TANZANIAN marathoner Alphonce Simbu is among the national team athletes heading to Mbeya for 2021 Tulia Marathon this Saturday. Simbu is one of the four athletes who have been sponsored by Ocean Silent to compete in the Mbeya event which stages its fourth edition this year.

The trip’s coordinator Nelson Mrashani said the Tanzanian firm whose headquarters is in China, has offered the sponsorship to Simbu and three other with aim to boost sports and develop sportsmen and women in Tanzania. The athletes have now camped Olmotonyi preparing for Tokyo Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games and All Africa Games.

The national athletes involved in the trip to Mbeya besides Simbu are Emmanuel Giniki, Joseph Panga, Jackline Sakilu, Faraja Damas, Andrew Rhobi, Herman Sullen and Lameck Misiwe. All of them will compete in the 21km Half Marathon.

The team under the tutelage of Anthony Muingereza and Thomas John, leave today from Arusha. According to the assistant coach Thomas John, the national team athletes will use Tulia Marathon as a build- up event for Tokyo Olympics. The Mbeya Tulia Marathon is a spectacular annual race held in Mbeya City, The Marathon managed to create positive attention towards supporting underprivileged groups in our societies.

There has been massive response in participation from locals, members of parliaments and corporate participants. A pool of local and international corporate organisations did partner with the Tulia Trust last year.

This has generously contributed to the success of the first Tulia Marathon and, more importantly, scaling up support to the cause that the race advocates.
