Africa-Press – Tanzania. Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Mashimba Ndaki reaffirm on Thursday the government’s commitment towards reviving the Tanzania Fisheries Company (TAFICO).
Debating the ministry’s budget estimates and expenditure for the next fiscal year, Ndaki said the government is working on expanding investments in the fishing sector to actively contribute to the national GDP.
The plan according to the deputy minister will also include building a fisheries port to facilitate investment in the Maritime Economy Zone.
The contribution of private sectors in the fisheries industry is growing rapidly, the deputy minister said detailing that there currently 16 big fish processing factories and other five factories for manufacturing fishing equipment.
“Investment in the aquaculture industry has increased where as of April, 2021 their ware 473 fish ponds, 30,032 pools, 28 incubators and 11 fish processing factories,” he added
