Africa-Press – Tanzania. GEITA Gold Mining (GGM) has donated some machines worth 132m/- to support the Integrated Mining Technical (IMT) programme to Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) Moshi in Kilimanjaro.
The IMT programme was introduced recently, geared up to fill the gap required in the industry and ensure others acquire required skills for self-reliance in mining activities. GGM Vice-President (Sustainability) Simon Shayo said the programme would motivate great enrolment of the students to the institution and improve learning activities to produce competent professionals in the extractive industry.
“It can be recalled that we have supported VETA Moshi to launch the IMT programme with the intention of aligning the institution’s capacity to continue offering better services to young Tanzanians,” Mr Shayo said.
Also GGM is sponsoring youth from communities surrounding them to attend technical mining courses offered by VETA Moshi.
“We are happy to now handover the equipment worth 132m/- to the centre that grooms youth to be skilled in the extractive industry,” he said.
VETA Director General, Dr Pancras Bujulu also said the support was better that physically giving them money. “On paper, the donation appears to be 132m/-, but in reality the benefit is much higher and would last long,” Dr Bujulu said.
Presiding over the occasion, Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Steven Kagaigai said it was clear that the learning equipment would make a big difference to the campus and enable students benefit and graduate with better skills.
