Africa-Press – Tanzania. GEITA Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) has released more than 2bn/- to construct a stadium in its plough back to the villagers surrounding it in Geita Region.
Making the revelation in Geita yesterday, the company’s Project Manager, Moses Rusasa said it will cater for sports activities, which include football and athletics among others.
He further said GGML will supervise the work and make sure it is completes on time, adding: “Unlike what is delaying several projects starting with immediate effect being payment as compensation to the residents, whose pieces of land has been annexed, this one is different because already a plot has been earmarked and the regional leadership is doing its best to quicken the process of paperwork.”
Commenting on the project, Geita Town Council Chairman, Constantine Moranda said GGML has been the government’s partner in implementing various community projects, a culture that develops the region.
Elaborating on the project, Geita Town Council Acting Executive Director, Engineer Felix Nlalio said they have allocated about 10.4 hectares (104,570 sqm) piece of land for the construction of a state-of-the-art stadium that will also mark places for other related commercial activities including car park.
Nlalio further said it will be built by EFQ Company Ltd and MugooConstruction Company based in Mwanza Region, noting: “This projectis being funded by GGML through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) community accountability budget… once completed, it will accommodate roughly 12,000 spectators seated at more than 2bn/-.”
Reached for a comment, Geita District Commissioner Willisoni Shimo called upon the project’s managers to implement it in accordance to the standards and conditions set the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).
A representative from the EFQ Company Limited and Mugoo Construction Company Limited JV, Juma Nywataya said the company will complete the work within four months.
In a related development, the General Secretary of the GEREFA Football Association, Pius Kimisha said the stadium construction will motive the youth in the region to work hard towards excelling in sports.
