Africa-Press – Tanzania. NURU Mollel is on a pole position to win this year’s Tanzania Open Golf for professional category after leading the battle by five shots in the third round at TPC Moshi Club course in Kilimanjaro yesterday.
Professional golfers who started their 72 holes three-day battle on Thursday, are scheduled to complete their final round today.
According to the report from TPC, the Arusha Gymkhana Club pro Mollel made it right this time around after staying at the leader board helm right from the start.
Mollel began his onslaught with 75 strokes, two strokes adrift of the overnight leader Hassan Kadio from Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) who grossed 73 strokes.
At difficult Thursday the pros had to play 36 holes, that saw Mollel coming in strongly in the second round in the afternoon with one under 71 and added 75 strokes to claim aggregate 221 strokes that placed him ahead of his two closest challengers and club-mate, Elisante Lembris and Frank Mwinuka.
Lembris carded 78, 74 and 74 from first to third rounds to aggregate claim 226 strokes that placed him second. Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Club golfer Frank Mwinuka carded 79,76,74 (229) to claim the third place.
Mollel said: “I am welldrilled to win this battle, I went close twice in the previous events, but this time around, I assure my fans will be happy.”
Kadio, the former national team coach and winner of TPC Open held last month, started with sound note, but lost his swing later.
