Africa-Press – Tanzania. SHINYANGA Regional Administrative Secretary, Zuwena Omary has said that a total of 41bn/- has been set aside by the government for the execution of various projects in the region.
Ms Omary revealed that in a meeting that brought together heads of government institutions in the region which was convened by Shinyanga Urban MP Patrobas Katambi. She said that 4 per cent of the fund is meant for empowering people economically.
Omary also said that Shinyanga region also received 17bn/- from the Covid -19 relief package of which 5.4bn/- was channeled to the construction of a regional referral hospital which is being built at Mwawaza area. “ A total of 393 classrooms have been built with the funds provided under relief package in which each classroom has been constructed at a cost of 20m/- as well as the construction of health emergency facilities and workers’ houses,” Ms Omary said.
According to Ms Omary, they first focused on education projects but now they have started implementing health projects which are expected to be completed in March this year. “Currently there is an environmental and hand washing programme which is on progress in schools which is being implemented at a cost of 803m/-,” she said.
Katambi, who is also Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth and Employment) said that the aim of seeking information from government institutions is to know how the approved budget has been implemented with the aim of ensuring positive results to the citizens. He also said that the move is aimed at ensuring that the funds allocated reached the respective institutions for execution of the activities.
Shinyanga Municipal Mayor Elias Masunbuko said that other institutions have not been executing their duties as required, giving an example of Tanzania Electric Supply Company which has failed to provide clear information about power cuts.
Shinyanga Peace Committee Chairman Sheikh Khamis Balilusa said that heads of public institutions have not been speaking about good things done by the government thus why people have been issuing misleading information through social media.
