Africa-Press – Tanzania. GRADUATES have been urged to utilise skills and expertise they acquire from universities so that their contribution could help the government to implement its goals of building up an industrial based economy.
The Chairman of the Council of University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) retired Judge Damian Lubuva said this during the 13th graduation ceremony of the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) held at the institution recently.
The glamorous ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam and former president, Dr Jakaya Kikwete who conferred Diplomas and Degrees to the scholars.
“Let me advise you to cooperate and continue helping the government to implement well all the development projects which are being undertaken, plus the vision of reaching the status of an industrial economy. “Do not be part of those people who drag the government backwards instead of contributing to development. Whenever the state has done something good, applaud it, and when things go wrong, you are free to advise using good language by proposing solutions where necessary,” he said.
He continued: “Always remember that we have taught you to use peaceful ways to solve problems that may come your way instead of embracing conflicts, which can never provide tangible solutions.”
Furthermore, the retired Judge hailed Dr Kikwete for his visionary leadership at the University of Dar es Salaam, saying under his guidance, the university is moving forward and that they are able to contain problems which in one way or the other could hinder smooth running of the higher learning institution.
