Africa-PressTanzania. THE Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) is looking forward to establish centres for mineral processing laboratories in all mineral rich regions so as to expand provision of services to mineral dealers in the country.

A Geologist from GST, Zortosy Mpangile made the revelation here, noting that the plan is set to kick off soon. He said the first laboratories will be constructed in Geita and Chunya before constructing others in the remaining regions.

He made the revelation during the two-day training for small scale miners from Mtwara region on how to conduct exploration sampling and mineral extraction in the mineral rich areas in the region.

In a keynote address by Masasi District Commissioner, Mr Moses Machali, small scale miners in Mtwara face many challenges such as lack of education and training on mineral processing.

The DC urged the government to send GST geologists in Masasi and Nanyumbu to conduct research on how to identify areas with minerals in two districts.

“Our region is endowed with various mineral reserves but mining and exploration activities are still very low in Masasi and Nanyumbu,” he said.

On the other hand, the DC asked the trainees to make good use of the knowledge and skills acquired in the training to increase productivity in mining activities.

“GST is your organ, make use of educational resources including their experts in various fields for your progress in mining activities,” he said.

The GST provided training handbooks to small scale miners in Mtwara region to guide them on exploration sampling and mineral extraction.
