AfricaPress-Tanzania: Dangote Cement Factory in Mtwara region hopes to build its second natural gas station (CNG-Compressed Natura Gas) in Dar es Salaam region which will be used to provide clean, safe and low-cost gas for trucks transporting cement to various parts of the country.

The factory recently launched the first factory in Mtwara region with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per hour (equivalent to 5,000 liters of fuel (AGO-Automated Gas Oil). The station will be used to provide clean, safe and low cost gas for approximately 250 trucks.

The Minister of Energy, Medard Kalemani inaugurating the center commended the factory’s management for its investment in CNG.

“I want to assure Dangote and others who are interested in using gas resources in vehicles, the government is with you to ensure that it creates and creates an enabling environment so that this work is sustainable,” said Minister Kalemani.

Speaking at the inauguration of the station the Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Factory, Abdullahi Baba said the trucks have been modified to use two systems namely AGO (oil) and CNG (natural gas) at the same time.

“In addition, the station’s capacity will be sufficient to assist in the company’s strategy for future fuel consumption which will also involve the use of 100 percent natural gas in trucks in all its journeys,” he said.

Speaking about the factory that will be built in Dar es Salaam, Baba said the center will be built in Dar es Salaam 550 kilometers from where the Dangote cement factory is located.

He commended the Tanzanian government for creating a conducive environment that has attracted the Dangote factory to invest in the gas sector.

“Once again the Dangote factory has opened the way to the market through the implementation of this technology with great support from the Tanzanian government, and now the Dangote factory is set to become the second largest consumer of natural gas in the country after TANESCO,” he said. .

He said Tanzania is like Nigeria, endowed with large reserves of natural gas where the use of this gas in cars has great financial and environmental benefits.
