Africa-PressTanzania. TANZANIA open their 2021 International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup Africa qualifier campaign by facing Zimbabwe at Botswana Cricket Association oval 1 in Gaborone.

The tournament involves eleven teams from Rwanda, Botswana, Eswatini, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, Namibia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.

Tanzania is placed on group A together with the hosts Botswana, Rwanda, where other nations are Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Group B has Namibia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda.

The tournament began yesterday and was staged in two venues; Botswana Cricket Association Oval 1 and Oval 2.

In yesterday encounter, cricket fans witnessed Rwanda Women securing a win against Mozambique by ten wickets and Namibia Women beat Uganda by four runs.

Before the national team left, Coach Riziki Kiseto, team manager Annete Banali, Captain Hudaa Mrisho and the rest of squad received a warm send-off by the Director of Sports Yusuf Singo, who was also the chief guest at the APL Grand finale last Sunday.

According to Tanzania Cricket Association Information and Media Officer, Atif Salim there are high hopes that the team will return with its best-ever performance seeing the intense training they have been going through the past couple of months.

Apart from drilling well in the past few months, the ladies had the opportunity to test their quality in the national women championship held in June this year at Usagara grounds in Tanga.

The tournament brought ladies from different regions and fought had to pick the title. Tanga Combine won the title, and through that tournament, the coach was able to pick a squad that he trained with at TCA Academy in Dar es Salaam.

After the training, the women coach picked a total of 16 players, including its skipper Hudaa Omary, Zinaida Jeremiah, Sophia Jerome, Linda Justine, Perice Kamunya, Fatuma Kibasu.

Jennifer Kimaro, Shufaa Mohamed, Saum Mtae, Monica Pascal, Neema Pius, Nasra Saidi, Mwanaiddi Shakim, Mwanaidi Swedy, Nuru Tindo and Mwanamvua Ushanga.
