Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed ten wards from the upcoming 2025 General Election and cancelled the nominations of seven councillor candidates who had previously been approved in the affected areas.
In a statement released yesterday, INEC announced that the changes impact wards in both Katavi and Tabora regions.
The affected areas include Litapunga, Kanoge, Katumba and the villages of Ikolongo and Ndurumo in Mtapenda Ward, Nsimbo District, Katavi Region.
Other affected wards are Mishamo, Ilangu, Bulamata and Ipwaga in Tanganyika District, Katavi Region, as well as Milambo, Igombemkulu and Kanindo in Kaliua District, Tabora Region.
INEC has revoked the nominations of seven councillor candidates, all of whom were running under the ruling party, CCM.
They include Salehe Mrisho Msompola, who was the candidate for Kanoge Ward, Elius Wilson Elia (Katumba Ward) and Mohamedi Ally Asenga (Litapunga Ward) Others are Nicas Athanas Nibengo (Bulamata Ward), Sadick Augostino Mathew (Ilangu Ward), Rehani Simba Sokota (Ipwaga Ward) and Juma Mohamedi Kansimba who was running for Mishamo Ward.
In addition, INEC clarified that Milambo, Igombemkulu and Kanindo Wards in Kaliua District had not yet completed the councillor nomination process, contributing to the decision to remove them from the upcoming election.
The removal of these wards has led to the closure of 292 polling stations, previously located in the affected areas.
However, to safeguard voter participation, INEC has established 292 new polling stations in neighbouring wards.
According to a statement signed by INEC Director of Elections, Mr Ramadhan Kailima, a total of 106,288 registered voters from the closed stations have been reassigned to new polling locations across nearby wards.
According to INEC, the reassigned wards include Mtapenda, Uruwiza, Nsimbo, and Ugala (Nsimbo District, Katavi Region), Sasu, Ilege, Uyowa, Makingi and Silambo (Kaliua District, Tabora Region) and Tongwe Ward (Tanganyika District, Katavi Region).
INEC has urged all affected voters to take note of the changes and prepare to participate in the presidential, parliamentary and councillor election scheduled for October 29th this year.
