Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is determined to improving infrastructures to ease movement of people, goods and services, which in turn would improve the economy at household and national level.
This was said by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Monday, after inspecting construction of a 53.2 kilometres road from Nanganga to Ruangwa District, Lindi Region.
Mr Majaliwa is in the Lindi region to inspect development projects being implemented by the government in efforts to improve social services to the nationals Elaborating, he urged Tanzanians to own and make better use of the schemes meant to improve their economies, saying: “The government under President Samia is working hard day and night to ensure development goals are realized… make better use of these opportunities.”
Equally, the Premier instructed the Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads) to ensure their project are completed on time and to the expected standards.
“Tanroads must ensure that this project is completed on time and with required standard, and for those who have secured employment here must work diligently,” he said.
The project is constructed by China Railway 15 Bureau Group Corporation at a cost of 59.28bn/- and expected to be completed in November 2022.
In response, Tanroads Chief Executive Officer Eng Rogatus Mativila said by September this year, the project was at 32 per cent to completion stage.
Clarifying, he mentioned the work that has been done as general cleaning of the site and leveling the project area as well as designing culverts.
Apart from the Nanganga- Ruangwa road, other road projects the government is focusing on in Lindi region include the Liwale- Nachingwea that covers a distance of 130km to be built at tarmac level after the ongoing feasibility study.
“Already we have completed a feasibility study for the construction of the 102 km road stretch from Kiranjeranje- Namichinga and Ruangwa as well as the 55 km from Masaninga- Nangurukuru-Kilwa Masoko,” he said.
Regarding the construction of a 231 km road from Nangurukuru to Liwale, the Tanroads CEO said they have signed a contract for a feasibility study, whose implementation will start within one month.
Earlier, speaking on the Nangurukuru-Liwale project in Liwale District, Prime Minister Majaliwa assured the residents of the government’s commitment to construct it to a tarmac level.
He added, “For the sake of easing movement of people, goods and services within the two districts…President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been issuing money for development projects, and this road is in her plans, she will implement this project accordingly.”
Mr Majaliwa further said that in efforts to ensure timely completion of the project, the road will be constructed by more than one contractor, adding that the approach has also been applied in other road projects in various parts of the country and it worked.
“Our President wants this project to be implemented within a short period of time and with high standards,’’ he noted, adding that a lot of money will be released to ease provision of social services countrywide.
