The Commission of Inquiry into unrest during the October 2025 General Election in Tanzania has been granted a 21-day extension to complete its work. This extension allows for further analysis of evidence and public submissions, with a new deadline set for April 24, 2026. The commission has acknowledged the increased public engagement and cooperation throughout the inquiry process.
Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE appointing authority has approved a fresh extension for the Commission of Inquiry into incidents of unrest during and after the October 2025 General Election, granting it an additional 21 days to complete its work by April 24, 2026.
The extension aims to allow the commission to finalise analysis of evidence, reports, and public submissions already received, while also giving forensic experts time to examine newly submitted exhibits.
According to authorities, the extra time will enable the commission to complete the preparation of its final report to the President, including the translation of the document.
The commission began its work on November 20, 2025, with an initial 90-day mandate. It was later granted an extension to submit its report by April 3, 2026.
However, following the extension, public response exceeded expectations, with more citizens continuing to come forward to submit evidence, views, and information. As a result, the commission was unable to complete its work by the previous deadline and requested additional time.
Furthermore, the commission has expressed appreciation to citizens and stakeholders for their cooperation throughout the inquiry, including those who appeared in person, made phone calls, sent written submissions and engaged through social media platforms.
