Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR First Lady Mariam Mwinyi has reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening cooperation with China in advancing the goals of the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF), with a particular focus on empowering women, youth and children.
Ms Mwinyi, who also serves as Chairperson of the ZMBF Board of Trustees, made the remarks during a meeting with the new Chinese Consul General to Zanzibar, Mr Li Quanghua, who paid her a courtesy call at her office in Migombani.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese government for its continued support of development initiatives in the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment especially efforts to boost seaweed farming among women.
“We are grateful for the longstanding friendship and fruitful cooperation with China. Our people have greatly benefited, especially in economic empowerment,” she said.
“We look forward to further strengthening these ties.” For his part, Consul General Li Quanghua commended ZMBF for its positive impact on community welfare, maternal and child health and the fight against gender-based violence.
He praised the foundation’s contributions to women’s empowerment through projects such as seaweed farming and pledged to deepen collaboration, enabling more Zanzibaris, especially youths and women, to overcome socioeconomic challenges.
