Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has increased Covid-19 testing fee to 185,000/- per person but has exempted patients and students, the House of Representatives heard here on Friday.
Health, Social Welfare, Elders, Gender and Children Minister Nassor Ahmed Mazrui told the house the hike was necessitated by rising operational costs, especially procurement of the testing kits.
He said the service demand has increased globally, pushing up the operational costs as well.
Minister Mazrui however assured the legislators that the 185,000/- charge applies only for travellers, maintaining that the testing for patients, Covid-19 suspects and students remains free.
Responding to Kwahani Representative Yahya Rashid Abdulla, the minister said there special exemption arrangement under which students seeking the relief have to submit their requests through the health ministry.
