Isles, Re-Focus Africa sign 5- year Sports, Arts deal

Africa-PressTanzania. THE Isles Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture, Arts and Sports has signed a five-year contract with Re-Focuss Africa to fast track development of sports, culture and arts in Isles.

Speaking from the Ministry’s office at Migombani here, the Deputy Permanent Secretary Khamis Abdalla Saidi said they held lengthy discussion with the institutions to plan strategies before signing the contract.

“We have signed the contract on May 4th with an aim to develop and maintain sports, arts and culture in Zanzibar,” he said.

Elaborating, he said the major beneficiaries are youth. According to the official, the contract signed will dwell much on searching talented youth in football, basketball and athletics.

“Athletes will be given opportunities to learn sports via internet and they will be awarded certificates upon completion of the courses,” he said.

Additionally, the institution will work close with other firms, clubs and higher learning institutions dealing with sports and arts that can help facilitate the programme.

The deal comes after the Isles President Hussein Ally Mwinyi directed sports bodies to find firms that can solve sponsorship hardship facing teams and leagues in the Isles.

The institution’s chairman Colonel Iddi Kipingu has thanked the government for signing the deal and promised to work hard in their joint bid to develop sports and sportsmen and women in Zanzibar.
