Africa-PressTanzania. A TOTAL of 253 goals have been netted and the same number of goals have been conceded as the first round of the Mainland Premier League is about to come an end.

Until this far, the season has been thrilling as the level of competition among the teams seems to have doubled to the extent that one may cherish that his/her side has won a match at the end of the regular period of play, but because of the stiff competition, anything can happen.

There are no longer minnows in the league as each has got unique qualities capable to make big impact and bring deserved victories.

As anticipated, defending champions Simba are still leading the top score chart after converting 33 goals from 14 games played and they can add up more goals from their remaining three fixtures.

Simba have also produced the current top goal scorer John Bocco who has hit behind the net eight times and from the trend of scoring goals, it seems that this season, the chase for the golden boot is going to be more tricky than ever before.

His teammate Meddie Kagere who is fighting to defend his top scorer award has so far scored 5 goals while Clatous Chama is cherishing 6 goals to his name.

League leaders Young Africans are second on the scoring table with 25 goals from 16 matches they have played and can increase the tally if they will score against debutants Ihefu FC in their last match of the first round set on Wednesday in Mbeya.

For Yanga, two players, Lamine Moro and Michael Saprong have matched with each scoring four goals thereby contributing to a total of 8 goals from the converted 25 goals.

Azam FC are third with 23 goals and their current top goal scorer is Prince Dube who has pumped in 6 goals but due to injury, he has missed and will continue to be sidelined for a couple of games while his colleague Ayoub Lyanga has since scored 4 goals.

On the other hand, the team which have conceded more goals until this stage is the bottom placed Mwadui FC which has allowed 34 goals to hit behind their net.

They are seconded by Coastal Union with 21 goals and JKT Tanzania are third to concede more goals with 20 goals.

Mbeya City, from their 16 encounters have netted 6 goals only less than any other team on the log which testifies that they still have a blunt striking force that needs to be sharpened prior to the next round of the league.
