Africa-Press – Tanzania. FORMER Tanzanian President Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has affirmed that the procedures used to endorse President Samia Suluhu Hassan as CCM’s presidential candidate for the upcoming general election are the same ones that have been consistently followed since the introduction of multiparty democracy in Tanzania.

Dr. Kikwete made these remarks today during the official launch of CCM’s campaign ahead of the 2025 General Election, scheduled for October 29. The event took place at Tanganyika Packers Grounds in Dar es Salaam, where he expressed surprise at those criticizing the endorsement process.

“There have been comments and whispers suggesting that the procedures were violated. I was even criticized for what I said at the National Congress. But I maintain those making such claims either do not understand our party’s procedures, have forgotten them, or are simply pretending not to know,” he stated.

He emphasized that, “Since we embraced multiparty democracy, CCM established a tradition where a sitting president seeking a second term is given the nomination unopposed. That was the case with President Mkapa, it was the same for me, and also for President Magufuli. So why is there noise now about President Samia? What’s the reason? Why didn’t we hear such complaints with Mkapa, Kikwete, or Magufuli?”

Additionally, Dr. Kikwete used the occasion to commend President Samia Suluhu Hassan for implementing major development projects across various sectors and for completing Tanzania’s Vision 2050 national development blueprint.
