Joseph seals lead in race for CDF Trophy

Africa-PressTanzania. TANZANIA’S top amateur golfer Victor Joseph from Dar Gymkhana Club is leading by three shots at the end of the 18-hole competition held at Lugalo course yesterday.

Joseph who grossed 72 strokes yesterday beat his closest challenger George Sembi from TPC Moshi by three shots. Sembi returned 75 strokes.

With a stroke behind Sembi, was Arnold Gandi from Lugalo who penned 76 strokes at the end of yesterday’s tee off.

Joseph is the tournament’s defending champion. Last year he won it after grossing 150 aggregate strokes.

Three-shots lead places him at the pole to defend the title this year.

Speaking after the end of the first round, Joseph admitted the race for CDF Trophy’s diadem is tough despite leading.

“All golfers are well drilled and anyone from the top three can win the event,” said Joseph.

The 36-hole tournament climaxes today at the same venue after the participants complete the remaining 18 holes.

The golfers playing in the tournament come from Mufindi Golf Club of Iringa, Sea Cliff Resort and Spa Golf Club of Zanzibar, Moshi Gymkhana Club and TPC Club of Kilimanjaro, Morogoro Gymkhana Club, Kili Golf Club and Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) of Arusha and Dar Gymkhana Club.

“I’m well prepared to defend the title, I know it is going to be tough, but I am ready for any challenge. The good thing is that my performance has made vast improvement and I am better than I was last year,” Joseph.

The gross competition is one of the major tournaments staged at the club after Lugalo Open.
