Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government in Kagera region has banned funeral gatherings as among the measures to prevent further spread of Covid 19 pandemic.
Kagera Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Professor Faustin Kamuzora issued the directive on behalf of the Regional Commissioner (RC), Major Gen Charles Mbuge, as the vaccination exercise kicked off at Bukoba Regional Referral Hospital on Wednesday.
“For quite a long time residents in Kagera region have a tradition of attending burial rituals in large number and spend hours without taking precautions against Covid 19 pandemic , this practice should change as we fight against the pandemic,” he said.
He appealed to Tanzanians to turnout in large numbers in vaccination exercise, assuring that the vaccines are safe.
“Vaccines are not new in our history… between 1918 and 1920 during the outbreak of ‘Spanish Flue’ experts also managed to contain the disease through vaccination ,” he said.
