Africa-Press – Tanzania. KAGERA region has opened a special register for the objective of identifying non-citizens as the country prepares for Population and Housing Census scheduled for August next year.
Bukoba District Commissioner (DC), Mr Moses Machali, appealed to residents to report to their relevant authorities any non-citizen for necessary action.
“As the country prepares for next year’s Population and Housing Census, residents in Kagera region are required to register themselves in a special register so that they can identify those who are not Tanzanians,” he said.
Mr Machali explained that Kagera region shares common borders with four East African nations-Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya across Lake Victoria, a situation that prompts the area to establish the exact number of its citizens.
According to the 2012 Population and Housing Census, Kagera region had a population of 3.2 million.
Mr Machali also directed Ward Executive Officers (WEO) to convene regular meetings and explain to wananchi the income and expenditures made in the implementation of various projects in their respective areas.
