Kariakoo Markets to undergo major facelift

Africa-PressTanzania. THE government is planning to renovate the Kariakoo market in Dar es Salaam into an international market after the busy spot was nearly burnt to ashes two months ago.

Chief Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa said in Dodoma on Sunday, an implementation report will be submitted to the President, Samia Suluhu Hassan today (September 12).

According to Msigwa, the new plan is to elevate the modern market into an international facility similar to any other world-class market that runs 24/7.

The 47-year-old Kariakoo Market was ravaged by a hungry inferno that broke out in the early hours of Saturday night and could be seen from miles away.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa formed a special investigation team that also submitted its report on July 25.

There have been no reports as to the cause of the fire that burnt for hours.
