Africa-PressTanzania. RENOWNED football pundit Theogenis Alex Kashasha was laid to rest at Kinondoni Cemetery in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The late Kashasha, who was working with Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), gaining popularity in his in-depth football analysis of the game, including Dar Derbies, died last Thursday when football fans were expecting him to glorify the live coverage of the football matches aired by TBC.

According to a report from TBC online, Kashasha, who was popularly known as Mwalimu Kashasha, passed away Thursday afternoon at Dr Kairuki Hospital in Dar es Salaam where he went for treatment.

Whenever TBC aired live matches, the late Kashasha, a football fans’ idol, used to attract a huge audience, most radio listeners.

Mwalimu Kashasha was born in 1957 in Maruku, Bukoba.

Theogenis Alex’s love for football began during his childhood. However, he ended up playing for some local teams around the Lake Zone regions.

Later, he moved to Mara, where he worked as a teacher and sports officer. There he also coached some local teams like MUTEX and Mara regional football team.

Some of his former players, who later became quite famous, included the late Nico Bambaga, former Simba and Taifa Stars player, as well as Paul Rwechungura, Dhikir Mchumila, Athumani Chama, among the few.

Among unforgettable incidents was while at Ikizu Secondary School in Mara, where he managed to transform that school into a football giant, and it won the regional championship in the 1984/85 season.

Alex Kashasha attended different schools across the country, finalising his high school at Songea Boys (Ruvuma) back in 1978.

The man is a sports teacher by profession, having studied physical education at the Butimba Teachers College in Mwanza before joining UDSM in 2009, for a special Diploma titled Physical Education in Sports Science.

In addition, he has attended several local and international FIFA as well as CAF’s coaching courses. Mwalimu Kashasha is married and is blessed with 2 children.
