Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIAN pugilist Selemani Kidunda is the new World Boxing Federation International Super Middle Weight champion after outpointing Erick Katompa from Democratic Republic of Congo in a ten-round bout staged at Majimaji Stadium in Songea over the weekend.

Kidunda was announced the WBF title winner by unanimous decision from the three judges.

Following the victory, the Tanzanian boxer revealed his success was due to the best coaching tactics over his opponent.

“The boxer I faced was quite an exception, and I am sure he did train well to fight me.

I trained hard in Dar es Salaam with my coach to beat my opponent.

It was possible to win, as we studied our opponent’s fighting style.

Our opponent came into the fight differently; he thought his style could put us down, but it made it easy to dominate the fight.”

At Majimaji stadium, Songea residences welcomed Kidunda with love, and he delivered the best fight against his opponent.

This is the second time the two boxers have met. They first met last year in December at Ubungo Plaza, Dar es Salaam. The bout ended in a technical draw.

Kidunda has maintained his undefeated record since he turned professional boxing in 2019.

He has fought nine fights and won eight with seven knockouts and one draw.

His opponent has won nine of twelve fights since he began his career ten years ago.

Saturday’s loss from Kidunda becomes his second defeat. Before the defeat, he lost to Paulinus Ndjolonimu in March.

Regarding Saturday’s fight, Katompa said he had no hard time with his opponent Kidunda.

Although he admitted it, Kidunda challenged him and forced him to change his fighting style from orthodox to southpaw.

“Kidunda was coming to a close as we used the orthodox stance initially, but we later changed our fighting style to a southpaw stance.

After turning to the southpaw stance, things were turning around.”
