Africa-Press – Tanzania. A TANZANIAN referee Frank Komba has been included in the list of 31 Assistant Referees appointed to officiate at the forthcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Cameroon.
East Africa Community has been blessed with three referees and two Assistant Refs who will represent their respective countries during the contest.
They have been drawn from Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi and that appointment hands them a golden opportunity to fly high the East African Community’s flag besides their respective countries.
For Tanzania, this is a good news since despite the national envoys Taifa Stars missing out an opportunity to parade in the finals, at least, eyes of football fans will be watching Komba to see how he executes his responsibilities.
He is among the vast experienced referees in the country and he has also on several occasions claimed opportunities to officiate big football events outside the country hence without doubt, he is set to deliver.
At once, during his recent interview with a local Television station, he pointed out that his dream in his career is to officiate in the world cup level where he said he will be content if that happens.
“What I wish to fulfill in my career is to officiate at a world cup event.
If it is not me, then before I die, I would like to see a Tanzanian referee officiating at the world cup level,” Komba, who is a police officer, said. He also disclosed that to reach where he is now, was not easy as he had to pass through a lot of trying times but he never gave up his desire of becoming one of the respectable refs in the country.
Moreover, he elaborated that one thing he enjoys from football officiating is to make decisions in front of high profile people like presidents a thing he said he enjoys a lot.
Asked whether he would entice his two daughters to follow his path of refereeing, Komba revealed that it will be up to them but he cannot force them to pursue the referee profession.
Commenting on his hobbies, he said he loves travelling a lot from one place to another and that his refereeing responsibilities have enabled him to go to different places and meet people he could have not if he was not a ref.
