Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Lions Clubs International based in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, vow to continue serving the communities and supporting the government efforts through humanitarians’ services on a voluntary basis.
Lions Club International representative in Dar es Salaam, Mr Rizwan Qadri said the club has been focused on areas of priority in delivery services to the community such as cancer, diabetes, environment and eye sight.
Mr Qadri made the remarks during the second International Association of Lion Club, African forum, which was held virtually recently in Dar es Salaam due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is an international event of lions clubs, which is held every year in the member countries on the African continent. The first one was held in Lusaka, Zambia in 2019.
He said the conference aimed enhancing knowledge, grow and share new experiences among members of clubs. It also targets how to continue engaging in community service to provide a positive impact on society at large.
Mr Qadri explained that the club has been providing support for the needs of children and families affected by childhood cancer through impactful service activities.
“In environment area, we serve to sustainably protect and restore our environment to improve the well-being of all communities,” he said.
Also in vision, they serve to prevent avoidable blindness and improve quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired.
Furthermore, the club focuses to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve quality of life for those diagnosed.
“As Lions Club, we have been working and changing lives of those needy, underprivileged and underserved,” said Mr Qadri.
He explained that volunteering and getting involved in community service, about 5000 people have participated in medical screening services on general check-up, eyesight test and diabetes.
Lions Clubs International (LCI) focuses to empower Lions clubs, volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
