Africa-Press – Tanzania. DEPUTY Minister for Industry and Trade Mr Exaud Kigahe has announced that the Mang’ula Machine Tools factory is set to resume production in January 2026, as outlined in the revitalisation plan.

Mr Kigahe said this while responding to a basic question from the Kilombero MP Abubakar Asenga (CCM), who wanted to know when the Mang’ula Machine Tools Factory would reopen after being closed for a long time.

In response, the Deputy Minister said that recognising the importance of the Mang’ula Machine Tools factory in the production of machines and spare parts in the country, the government has intended to revive the factory and has taken various measures.

He mentioned some measures include assessing the machinery, repairing some buildings, conducting a stocktaking and valuing the factory’s assets, which were valued at 9.571bn/- according to a report dated March 21, 2024.

“The next step is to find an investor with the financial capacity and the required technology to revive this factory,” he said.

Furthermore, Mr Kigahe said that according to the work plan, it is expected that an investor will be found by the end of February 2025, the renovation of buildings and installation of machinery will be completed by December 2025 and finally, production will begin in January 2026.

In a supplementary question, Special Seats MP, Janeth Mahawanga wanted to know as to when the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) will establish a system for providing education to small entrepreneurs engaging in food processing businesses.

In response to the question, Mr Kigahe said that the government, through TBS, is implementing a training programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in collaboration with SIDO and other stakeholders in the entire concept of standards, encouraging compliance with standards in the production of goods to meet quality and competitiveness requirements in the market.

He said that from the 2020/2021 to 2023/2024 financial year, a total of 14,354 small entrepreneurs and stakeholders from various sectors received quality training.

Additionally, Mr Kigahe said that through such programme, the government, through TBS, has been allocating approximately 350m/- each year for training SMEs.
