Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Chancellor of Kairuki University, retired Speaker Anne Makinda, is expected to preside over and award certificates to 426 graduates in medicine, nursing and social welfare later this week.
This was said over the weekend by the Vice- Chancellor of the university, Prof Yohana Mashalla, while speaking about the 23rd graduation ceremony which will be held at the university’s Boko Campus in Dar es Salaam.
He said this is the first time that the graduation ceremony is being held at the Boko Campus, which has been constructed to accommodate a larger number of students.
Prof Mashalla said the number of graduates in this year’s graduation ceremony will be 426 compared to the 258 graduates who graduated in 2024, which he said is equivalent to an increase of 65.1 per cent compared to last year’s graduates.
“This increase is significant and gives us encouragement and strong motivation to continue training more students in the health field to meet the national needs in health services,” he said.
In addition, he said that of the graduates, 18 will be Social Welfare graduates, compared to 15 last year.
Bachelor of Nursing graduates will be 50 this year, while Bachelor of Social Welfare graduates will be 14 compared to eight last year.
He further said that in terms of Bachelor of Nursing Science, this year there are 47 graduates, while Bachelor of Medicine graduates this year are 270 compared to 115 last year, which represents an increase of 134 per cent.
Prof Mashalla said that this year there will also be three graduates of Bachelor of Paediatrics and three graduates of Bachelor of Surgery.
He added that there will also be 11 graduates in the field of gynaecology and 10 graduates of Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine.
“If you add all these, you get 426 graduates. We would like to inform the public that we continue to build the capacity of our academics in research, and in research there are specific areas that we have focused on. We provide them with methods for writing projects that they can distribute to stakeholders and secure projects,” he said.
He said that in this programme they have obtained 39 graduates who have been trained in detail to write projects fluently and professionally.
He said that for the first time they have started giving the academics of the college the ability to write projects that they can present to donors and secure funding.
