Africa-Press – Tanzania. MINISTER for Works and Transport Prof Makame Mbarawa has directed the contractor of Msalato International Airport in Dodoma to complete the work within the agreed time frame and standards.
The construction of the airport with 3.6kms is expected to be completed in June 2025 at a cost of 165bn/-.
Prof Mbarawa issued the directives in Dodoma when inspecting the project progress in Dodoma.
The airport is being constructed by Sinohydro Corporation in collaboration with M/s Beijing Sino– Aero Construction Engineering and M/s China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation.
“I would like to insist that those who have been given the task to oversee the construction of the airport including consultant engineer, Tanzania National Roads Agency and Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) to make sure that, the contractor adhere to the agreed standards and complete the work by 2025,” he said.
The Minister said that, he will be visiting the project regularly in order see various implementation process from the beginning to the end of the project.
The aim of the regular visit is to see how the contractor executes the project as per contractual terms.
He explained that the airport is being built in two phases whereby the first phase involves construction of runways, apron, tax ways and fixing lights. The second phase will include construction of passengers’ lounge and other infrastructure.
Prof Mbarawa further expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for continuing to provide funds for execution of various projects in the country for development of the nation in general.
He called upon citizens to cooperate with the contractors in order to ensure successful implementation of the project.
On his part, TANROAD Dodoma Regional Manager Leonard Chimagu said currently the contractor is constructing runways.
Tabling the national budget for the current fiscal year, Minister for Finance and Planning Dr Mwigulu Nchemba said that the improvement of airports infrastructure in various parts of the country is ongoing.
In the implementation of that, the government has signed a contract for the construction of Msalato International Airport in the first phase which involves the construction of a runway and a passenger terminal, he said.
In his budget speech, Prof Mbarawa said that in 2022/2023 the government has allocated 20,435.72/- million for construction of Msalato International Airport.
